Oldham have signed defender Anthony Gerrard on a two-and-a-half-year contract, the club have announced.

The 30-year-old played a key role in helping the club survive relegation from Sky Bet League One last season.

Gerrard had been offered a new deal at the end of last season but became a free agent in the summer. The centre-back has been training with the club for the past few months and has penned a deal that will keep him at SportsDirect.com Park until 2019.

Manager John Sheridan told the club's website: "Anthony (Gerrard) was a big part of us staying up last season so I'm very pleased to get him signed.

"The most important thing is he helps us stay in this division and then we look to the future once we have secured our place in this league."

The latics have signed striker Michael Ngoo on a contract until the end of the season.

Ngoo, a Liverpool academy graduate, has been on trial with the Sky Bet League One strugglers and Sheridan is impressed.

"He has got a good pedigree with being at Liverpool and he's here until the end of the season so hopefully he turns out to be a good acquisition for us," he said.

Ngoo, 24, was most recently at non-league side Bromley and before that had a stint at Kilmarnock.
