Bolton ended Fleetwood's 18-game unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One and gained a vital advantage in the race for automatic promotion thanks to a 4-2 victory at Highbury.

Adam Le Fondre and David Wheater put Bolton in control but Kyle Dempsey pulled a goal back for the hosts. Mark Beevers and Le Fondre's second of the afternoon restored Bolton's two-goal cushion before Bobby Grant reduced the deficit again.

Fleetwood stay second behind runaway leaders Sheffield United, who do not play this weekend, but Bolton have closed within a point of Town and have a game in hand over their rivals.

Bradford are just a point further back after second-half goals from Alex Jones and Jordy Hiwula gave them a 2-0 win at bottom club Coventry, who are 14 points adrift of safety.

Scunthorpe have dropped to fifth after their winless run was extended to nine matches with a 3-2 defeat at Gillingham. Paddy Madden and Harry Toffolo put the Iron in a strong position but a hat-trick of penalties from Josh Wright in the space of nine minutes towards the end of the game gave the Gills victory and eased them further away from the bottom four.

With Millwall in FA Cup action, Bristol Rovers and Southend had the chance to narrow the gap on the Lions in the last play-off spot and the two sides met at the Memorial Stadium. Rovers extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Billy Bodin and Rory Gaffney.

Towards the bottom of the table, Port Vale boosted their survival hopes with a 3-2 home win over Swindon, who led through Jonathan Obika's goal. However, Chris Eagles quickly equalised and a JJ Hooper double gave Vale victory.
