League One round-up: Shrewsbury go top

Stefan Payne's fourth goal of the season secured Shrewsbury a 1-0 home win against Wigan and lifted them top of Sky Bet League One.

Striker Payne struck the only goal midway through the first-half as the Shrews, who escaped relegation by two points last season, extended their unbeaten start to six matches.

Overnight leaders Peterborough slipped to their first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 at home to Bradford. Charlton moved up to second after securing their fifth league win of the season with a 2-1 home victory against Southend. Josh Magennis and Ricky Holmes struck in the space of three minutes after a goalless first-half before Southend responded through John White's header.

Scunthorpe remain unbeaten, but dropped to fifth place after a goalless home draw against Blackpool, while Blackburn registered their third straight league win with a 3-0 victory at north-west rivals Rochdale.

Northampton midfielder Matt Crooks ensured a winning start for his side's new manager Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, scoring the only goal after just 21 seconds against Doncaster at Sixfields.

Richie Towell's last-minute effort clinched Rotherham a 3-2 home win against Bury. Jermaine Beckford and Nathan Cameron both equalised for Bury after Kieffer Moore had twice given Rotherham the lead, but Towell struck for Paul Warne's side in the 90th minute.

Portsmouth secured their first win since the opening day, 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon thanks to Brett Pitman's first-half penalty, after he had been fouled by Barry Fuller, and Conor Chaplin.

Ashley Hunter's stoppage-time penalty earned Fleetwood a 2-2 home draw against Oldham. Ollie Clarke struck a late winner for Bristol Rovers, who beat Walsall 2-1 despite having goalkeeper Sam Slocombe sent off.

Oxford climbed into the play-off places as second-half goals from Jack Payne, Joe Rothwell and Rob Hall saw them beat winless Gillingham 3-0. Aidan Nesbitt scored the only goal in MK Dons' 1-0 win at Plymouth as Robbie Neilson's side registered their second win of the season. Argyle had Graham Carey sent off in the first half.
