Cheltenham boss John Ward will be without Michael Wylde for at least two months, after the defender suffered a broken jaw in a pre-season friendly.
He and Shane Duff clashed heads in their side's encounter with Hereford, and after falling unconscious with the blow, Wylde was subjected to surgery.
Now, with a metal plate inserted in his jaw, the 20-year-old faces a frustrating spell on the sidelines as his side get their new campaign underway.
"Michael has a double displaced fracture in his lower jaw," revealed Robins physio Ian Weston to the club's official website.
"He has had surgery to insert a wire and a plate. That healing process will take about ten weeks and it is not a process that we can speed up at all."
