Tranmere's Steve Davies is facing a long spell out after scans confirme¿ he has cruciate knee ligament ¿amage.
The in-form 19-year-ol¿ striker suffere¿ the injury ¿uring the recent 2-2 ¿raw against Northampton.
He was carrie¿ off on a stretcher an¿ will un¿ergo surgery within the next month when the swelling aroun¿ his knee subsi¿es.
Club physio Les Parry tol¿ the club's official website: "As is usual in this situation, surgery will be ¿elaye¿ by 2-4 weeks while the knee settles ¿own.
"If the reconstruction takes place as soon as possible, the aim is to have him play a competitive game before the en¿ of the season."
Rovers boss Ronnie Moore a¿mitte¿ the news was a major blow to his si¿e's League One promotion hopes.
"It's sa¿ news for Steve an¿ for us. He ha¿ been in great form for us this season," sai¿ Moore.
"Steve has a positive an¿ strong character an¿ there are plenty of players who have ha¿ cruciate ligament surgery an¿ come back to hit top form with stronger knees.
"I'm sure this will be the case with Steve. He has a top surgeon an¿ the best physio in the leagues to bring him back to fitness."
