Kenny Jackett has challenged Bas Savage to earn a longer contract at Millwall after the striker signed until the end of the season.
Savage had been a free agent after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion last month after rejecting an extension at the Withdean Stadium.
He has now linked up with League One rivals Millwall and Lions manager Jackett explained his reasons for bringing in the forward.
"Bas will give us a more physical presence in both boxes, as well as taking some of the weight off Gary Alexander's shoulders," Jackett told the club's official website.
"We've got some good players here, but maybe we've lacked a bit of strength coming off the bench since Adebayo Akinfenwa left.
"Bas has come in on a short-term contract and will be working very hard to try and earn a longer deal."
During 12 months at Brighton, Savage scored 10 goals in 42 games, with his last appearance coming against Millwall on Boxing Day.
