Walsall defender Chris Palmer has set his sights on securing a new deal at the club, with his current contract set to expire at Christmas.
Palmer has been a useful acquisition since joining The Saddlers in the summer, filling in at right-back for the absent Rhys Weston, and he has voiced his aim of securing a longer term future at the Banks's Stadium.
"It's all about what I can do when I am given the opportunity. I have to prove to everyone I am worth my place in the side. When it comes to the time we will speak then, but until then I will get my head down," Palmer said in the Express & Star.
"You have to work to earn what you want and I am quite a positive thinker. I have only got until Christmas and hopefully it will be reviewed then.
"If I am playing a lot of games then hopefully I would get a bit more security, so I can relax a little bit."
The former Derby County man is happy to fill in where needed in the meantime, though he admits his preference is to play in a more advanced role on the flank.
"It would be great if I had the opportunity to play a bit further forward, but it is down to the manager and he picks the side, so whoever he thinks is best," he added.
