Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has confirmed he is still interested in signing Michael Bridges following his release from Hull City.
The 30-year-old striker has been allowed to leave the Tigers after falling down the pecking order in recent seasons.
He spent the 2008/9 campaign on loan with Carlisle and Abbott is now keen to bring him in on a permanent deal.
However, the Cumbrians boss accepts that he will face competition for a player who has also been linked with Hartlepool and Milton Keynes Dons.
"It stands to reason that he will want to look at all of the interest that there is, and he'll make a decision from there," Abbott told Carlisle's official website.
"As a player, he is one that can make a real impact, as we have already seen. When he is on his game he is very creative and, when he's playing well, he shines like a beacon.
"He has genuine ability and what we have to do is make sure that, if he does come to the club, he is at the forefront of what we are trying to do."
Abbott is set to hold talks with Bridges when he returns from holiday and believes he can offer more regular football than some other clubs.
"I'm sure that Michael will not want to go to a club where he will end up sitting on the sidelines, because he needs to be playing at this stage of his career," Abbott explained.
"That's something we'll be able to discuss with him the next time we speak, but it's a case of waiting to see what he has to say when he gets back from holiday before we start to make any assumptions."
