Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope has vowed to ease Danny Coles back into action after his long-term knee injury.
Coles managed just five matches last season before a series of problems which began against Leyton Orient in October and kept him on the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign.
He visited American specialist Bill Knowles in the summer and has made such progress he is now back in pre-season action alongside his team-mates.
The 27-year-old defender managed 45 minutes of Saturday's 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Torquay.
Trollope must now decided whether to include Coles in his side for Tuesday's game against Cheltenham, or hold him back for Friday's meeting with Crystal Palace.

He told the club's
official website: "We are going to be looking carefully at Danny Coles as to whether he will be involved in the game, there is a possibility he won't, we may save him for Friday.
"Obviously we do not want to ask too many demands so early of him, so there is a big possibility we will see him Friday, rather than tomorrow.
"There is no injury, he is fine, it is just rehab.
"He came through the game very well, obviously a little rusty round the edges, but that is what you would expect when you have been out of the game as long as he has.
"It is just a precaution, we have been pleased with what he has done, and pleased he got 45 minutes on Saturday."
