Taiwo targets play-offs

Cumbrians set sights on top six finish in League One

Carlisle United's on-loan midfielder Tom Taiwo believes a top six finish is well within reach this season, after a dismal campaign last term. The Cumbrians only narrowly avoided relegation to League Two last season, 12 months on from falling agonisingly short in the play-offs against Leeds. However, teenage starlet Taiwo, on-loan at Brunton Park from Premier League giants Chelsea, feels Greg Abbott's side are capable of mounting a promotion push this time around. "I think we have got a really good chance of improving on last season and maybe even pushing up the league and into contention for the play-offs," told skysports.com. "We've had some wonderful results, especially against the likes of Millwall, Oldham and Stockport, so as long as we keep scoring goals then we will always be confident of keeping clean sheets." Carlisle slumped to their first defeat in five games on Saturday, against Brighton, but Taiwo is confident they will bounce back as they travel to struggling Oldham next weekend. "A lot of the games that we have lost have been good performances from our point of view, but just not converting the chances that we've created, so it has been a very pleasing start to the season," he added. "If we can be a little bit more prolific in front of goal, like we were against Tranmere (in a 3-0 win), then we've got a good chance of doing well this season."
