Brighton boss Guy Poyet is eager to secure the long-term future of right-back Inigo Calderon at the Withdean Stadium.
Spaniard Calderon was Poyet's first signing during the January transfer window after he agreed to stay with the club until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old has impressed during his time with the Seagulls and boss Poyet is keen to tie the defender to an extended deal at the South Coast outfit.
Poyet is understood to be eyeing extensions for the likes of Peter Brezovan, Marcos Painter and Kazenga LuaLua, although Calderon is thought to be the highest priority for a new deal in order to stave off potential transfer interest.
The Uruguayan told The Argus: "It is something we have to look at.
"I am looking forward to keeping him here for many years. He likes it here, he knows the situation so we are working on it.
"The good thing is if I look at the players I've brought in everyone can realise now how good Peter (Brezovan) has been for us and Calderon has been outstanding all the time.
"I think people now understand why Marcos (Painter) is playing and how solid he is and everyone can see LuaLua.
"Everybody seems to be happy with them because they are different or better than what we have got. That is the way I would like to work from now on and try not to make many mistakes. At the moment it is working but it is not enough."
