Johnny Mullins believes he will have a clearer idea of his future once the proposed takeover of Stockport County has been completed.
Skysports.com revealed earlier in the week that the Hatters face a fight to hang on to their captain after Swindon Town and Peterborough United showed interest earlier in the year.
Mullins, voted County's player of the season, was one of the few successes to come out of a disappointing campaign which saw the club relegated to League Two.
With the 24-year-old out of contract in the summer, he could well find himself on the way out of Edgeley Park, but he knows the club's future comes first.
He told the club's official website: "I think under normal circumstances things would have been a little clearer, but I'm sure when things come in, fingers crossed that people come in and take over, then things will start taking shape.
"The gaffer has already said 'the sooner the better' really because he needs to get his plans in motion and it's the same for a lot of the players.
"All I want to do as a football player is play as high as my ability will take me, but I'm a Stockport County player at the minute and while that's the case I will do everything for Stockport.
"I don't know what the future holds but, for me now, hopefully this football club can get itself back on a level footing and get itself back up the league."
