Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has revealed the club are 'desperate' not to lose in-demand striker Troy Deeney.
Skysports.com understands Deeney is to hand in a transfer request at the Banks's Stadium after being the subject of multiple bids from Watford.
Hutchings is keen to have the 22-year-old in his plans for the new season, but accepts that 'every player has their price'.
"We're obviously desperate not to lose him and we're not a selling club anymore," Hutchings told skysports.com.
"We're trying to build something here and Troy is very much a part of that.
"Every player has their price as we've seen not too far from here in the Premier League, and if we receive an acceptable offer then it's irrelevant.
"But in the meantime he's a Saddler and we hope he'll remain that way."
Walsall kick off the new League One season against MK Dons on Saturday and Hutchings is hoping he can call on Deeney.
He continued: "We're all thinking about starting the season in the right way and whoever is selected to play on Saturday will know exactly what's required of them and how to go about their job, and Troy is as pivotal to that as anyone else."
