County reject Hawley bids

Notts County have confirmed they have rejected loan bids from two clubs for out-of-favour striker Karl Hawley.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Meadow Lane since joining the Magpies from Preston a year ago. He scored just three goals in 31 league appearances last season as Notts won the League Two title. He was not even named in the squad for the first two league games this season and was an unused substitute in the Carling Cup win at Plymouth. Hawley was drafted into the squad against Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend because Lee Hughes was sidelined with a groin injury, but he was omitted again at Watford on Tuesday night. "We have had two clubs come in who want to take him on loan," Notts owner Ray Trew told the Nottingham Post. "We have not discussed it with him. We received the approaches, spoke to manager Craig Short and decided not to let him go at this stage."
