Peterborough will have to make do without the services of defender Scott Griffiths after the full-back underwent a hernia operation last week.
The 25-year-old, who recently returned from a successful three-month loan spell at Chesterfield, looks set to miss the crucial festive period, with a January return to action likely.
The League One outfit face seven games in the next five weeks and are desperate to kick-start their bid for promotion after a run of three games without a win, but Griffiths admits it was an operation he could not delay any longer.
"I had hernia operation on Tuesday, so I'm just recovering from that at the moment," Griffiths told skysports.com.
"It will probably take a few weeks for me to be able to focus solely on getting fit again.
"I'm not sure what is going on at the club at the moment, but I'm in constant contact with the physio about what rehab I can get set up, but until then I can't even drive.
"It feels like it is recovering fairly well and I've been improving every day since I had the operation, so hopefully I can start doing a bit of running in a week or so.
"I felt the problem at the end of last season, but I wanted to show my commitment to the cause by continuing to make myself available for selection.
"However, now that I've returned from Chesterfield and I doubt the gaffer will want to use me in the first team I felt that this was the best time for me to get it sorted."
The former Dagenham & Redbridge left-back's future remains unclear after Posh manager Gary Johnson deemed him surplus to requirements earlier this season.
He added: "I've spoken to (director of football) Barry Fry, but I've not had the chance to speak to the gaffer yet because of the operation and the fact that I've not been able to take part in training since I've come back.
"I'm trying to get my rest in now because I know that I won't be in his first-team squad and hopefully I can come back fresh and fit for January."
