Lancashire eyes wins for Smith

Oliver Lancashire has urged his Walsall team-mates to avoid relegation from League One for boss Dean Smith.

The Saddlers, who were eight points adrift of safety when Smith took over in January, are now a point and a place above the relegation zone. They entertain Charlton at the Banks's Stadium on Saturday knowing a win would go a long way to securing their League One status, and Lancashire wants them to do it for their manager. He told the Express and Star: "The gaffer, Jon Whitney and Chris Nicholl have been great with us. They brought in a positive mentality and things like that. "It's helped us and people can see it out on the pitch with the passion, the positive energy and positive performances we have now. A few months ago everyone would have taken this with two games to go - we're on point ahead of the rest. We want to top it off on Saturday. We're definitely doing it for him." Meanwhile, Walsall have offered professional contracts to versatile wide man Jake Jones and striker Connor Deards, both of whom have impressed for the club's youth team this term.
