New Tranmere recruit Martin Devaney says he is raring to go ahead of this weekend's season-opener at home to Chesterfield.

The former Barnsley winger, 31, this week joined Rovers on a one-year contract after six years at Barnsley. Devaney, who also made over 200 appearances for Cheltenham and spent time on loan at MK Dons and Walsall, has adapted quickly to life at Prenton Park and is eyeing a starting role this weekend. He said: "I'm looking forward to Saturday and hopefully starting the season playing well. "There's a good bunch of lads here and they've helped me settle in well."
