Parry boosted by reserve outing

Les Parry was glad to see some of his Tranmere players progress towards full fitness in Tuesday's 2-0 reserve win over Oldham.

The Rovers boss watched Mark McChrystal, Enoch Showunmi and Martin Devaney step up their rehabilitation from injury problems, as the latter sealed victory with a long-range strike, while on-loan Everton forward Jose Baxter returned to action following a three-game ban for his red card in the defeat to Scunthorpe. "It's nice for them to get 90 minutes - McCrystal and Devaney both getting 90 minutes was good," Parry told Press Association Sport. "Jose Baxter hasn't played for a few weeks because of his ban so it was good for him to get 90 minutes under his belt." Rovers sit two points shy of the League One play-off places, but are without a win for four games in all competitions, and Parry admitted some of those who shone for the second string will come into contention for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. He added: "I think three or four put in decent performances. You've already got an idea about what changes you might make before you watch the game. All you're doing is confirming that they're in the right frame of mind and they can come in and do it."
