Paddy a bright spark in gloom

Carlisle striker Paddy Madden may have done enough at Brentford to earn an extended run in Greg Abbott's starting line-up.

Madden made his first start of the season in Monday night's televised 4-0 defeat at Griffin Park as Lee Miller sat out the final game of his three-match ban. "There are always positives and I thought Paddy Madden was excellent," Abbott said after the match. "He worked hard and nearly got his reward with a goal. He has given us something to think about." Carlisle's play-off hopes were dealt a big blow after their second defeat in four league matches left them two points behind sixth-placed Stevenage having played two games more. Abbott added: "The dressing room is a very low place because they have not performed anywhere near the level they can. "We've talked about it and will learn from it, but we won't let the players dwell on it and feel sorry for themselves for too long."
