Abbott: Cumbrians are upbeat

Greg Abbott has noticed a shift in the mood at Carlisle after they recorded their first point of the campaign on Friday night.

A 1-1 draw at Colchester ended a run of three consecutive four-goal defeats in League Two that would have seen the Cumbrians glued to the bottom of the table were it not for Coventry's 10-point deduction. But the under-pressure Abbott believes the performance has handed a timely morale boost to the dressing room. "The mood at our training session yesterday (Monday) was very upbeat following the performance at Colchester," he told the club's official website. "The way we played, particularly in the first half, gave everyone a huge lift and it's important that we use that as a stepping stone. It's no good if we allow ourselves to drop off the pace because we need to push on. "Everyone connected with the club needed that performance and it's just a shame that we didn't come away with all three points. "However, the positives were there for us all to see and I think there's an added determination in the group to make sure that we get more of the same at Brentford (on Saturday) and from the weeks that follow."
