Both sides harbour promotion aspirations in Sky Bet League One this season, with the Saddlers having narrowly missed on the play-offs in 2012/13 and the Posh looking to bounce back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
Taking points off those around you, or those expected to be around you come the final reckoning, is vital to the sides looking to cement a standing inside the top-six.
Walsall are aware of that fact and are confident they can secure a morale-boosting success at the Banks's Stadium on Monday.
Defender Paul Downing told Sky Sports: "We're at home, so we're always optimistic - we think we can beat anyone.
"It's a tough game, they are high-flying. They came down last year and have got some very good players, but on our day we can beat anyone in this league. We'll give them a very good game and we'll be right up for it. Hopefully then we can grab the three points.
"We'll give them the respect they deserve, but we aren't looking to defend. We're at home so we'll try and take the game to them and try to dominate. We'll look for a fast start, see if we can score the first goal, and then see how it goes from there."
Both sides head into the game on the back of successive defeats in the league, but Downing claims form means little in a fiercely-competitive division.
He added: "You never know with form. You're going to go through games without winning. They have had a couple of good wins in the cup so they aren't going to be short on confidence. We'll give them the respect they deserve and it's going to be a very entertaining game, I'm sure.
"It's always good to beat the teams in and around you and pushing for promotion. We can then dent their hopes. We want to be pushing and picking points up against everyone.
"I think a win on Monday would push us more into the pack for the play-offs but, don't get me wrong, it would be a massive win if we can do it."
Downing and his Saddlers colleagues are also looking forward to showcasing their talents in front of a televised audience, with the game set to be screened live on Sky Sports 1HD.
He said: "All the lads are looking forward to it. We can express ourselves and we can't wait for it. You don't often get the chance to play in front of the cameras, so it's one the lads are really looking forward to."
Paul Downing was talking to Sky Sports on behalf of Sky Bet, the Title Sponsor of The Football League.
