Saturday's League One clash between Crawley and Wolves has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Referee Ashley Slaughter carried out a pitch inspection on Friday lunchtime at the Broadfield Stadium before making the decision following persistent heavy rain in the area. The hosts were expecting a record crowd of nearly 6,000 fans for the clash and a new date is yet to be decided. "We were desperate to get this game on but we have been beaten by the weather I'm afraid," Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford told the club's official website. "We have had 60mm of rain in the last 24 hours and as well as flooding parts of the pitch we also have an issue with the drains not being able to cope with the sheer volume of water. "It has led to extensive flooding in the car park and Winfield Way which is a health and safety issue. The vulnerable areas of the pitch have been covered since Wednesday. "Our ground staff brought in extra covering but the water is just not going away. "It is a major disappointment because this was our biggest game of the season so far but there is very little we can do when we get the rainfall we've experienced in the last 24 hours."
