Trialists impress for Crawley

Crawley's trialists impressed as they ran out 2-1 victors over Three Bridges in a pre-season friendly.

Anthony Stewart and Steve Burford were on target for the Reds as they seek to impress the coaching staff ahead of the new season. Bridges, a Ryman Isthmian League side, competed well and could have been ahead in the first half but for the sharp reflexes of on-loan goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel. Crawley eventually took the lead early in the second half when Stewart volleyed home from close range, but the lead was short-lived when former Reds striker Allan Tait equalised with a tap-in. Burford finished coolly following good work from Emmett O'Connor and another trialist Charles Banya and first-team coach Paul Groves was impressed by the work of the newcomers. He told the official club website: "They handled it well, physically it was a good workout for them. "One or two of them have impressed us, we might take another opportunity to have a look at them and see how they fare against higher opposition."
