Burton have been dealt a blow on the eve of the new season with the news that Kelvin Maynard will miss the whole campaign with a knee injury.

Maynard suffered the injury at the weekend during the closing stages of the pre-season friendly defeat to Derby.

The 28-year-old defender was involved in a tangle for the ball with Rams midfielder Jamie Hanson and Maynard immediately signalled that he was in some discomfort when both players fell to the floor. He was treated on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.

Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has confirmed he will miss the 2015/16 season, which begins on Saturday with Albion at home to Scunthorpe.

"We have lost Kelvin for the whole year so we will have to have a look in that area," Hasselbaink told local reporters on Wednesday morning.

"It was unfortunate for him and for us. He has done really well in pre-season and is fit.

"It is a pity but we have to move on and he has to get stronger and get back as quickly as possible."
