David Prutton's EFL predictions including Huddersfield v Newcastle

David Prutton

David Prutton returns with his Sky Bet EFL predictions across the Championship, League One and League Two.

There's a big clash at the top of the table on Saturday evening as leaders Newcastle travel to Huddersfield, after a full programme of EFL action during the afternoon.

So who's Prutton tipping for three points? Read on to find out...

Huddersfield v Newcastle (Saturday from 5.15pm - live on Sky Sports 1)

Newcastle will have been buoyed by the result at Brighton, but Huddersfield have shown they can go up against the top teams in the division and win. They've shown the kind of team they are lately, and if they hadn't had that dip they'd be right up there with the top two.

They got flattened at Manchester City, but those were world-class players and there's no disgrace in that. We'll probably see a whole host of changes again and I fancy them against Newcastle.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 with Nahki Wells first goalscorer (35/1 with Sky Bet)

Blackburn v Wigan (Sat, 3pm)

It's a tough one as both are in a perilous position. Blackburn have changed their manager, which has had a bit of a galvanising effect so far.

But this feels like a draw to me, both sides will be desperate not to lose to a relegation rival and it could be more about containment than expansion.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 with Omar Bogle first goalscorer (25/1 with Sky Bet)

Fulham v Preston (Sat, 3pm)

This should be another close one, but it has all the makings of a good game. Fulham have been good at home this season but Preston have been as well, quietly going about their business.

Simon Grayon's side have gone beyond consolidating in the division and are looking to press on. They're a tough outfit, but with the likes of Aiden McGeady they've got a bit of brilliance as well.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 with Jordan Hugill first goalscorer (75/1 with Sky Bet)

Nottingham Forest v Brighton (Sat, 3pm)

It will be tough for Forest between now and the end of the season, obviously the change of manager was made again with half a mind on consolidation which hasn't happened yet.

Brighton were cruising against Newcastle until Mo Diame's freak goal dragged them back into it. They'll be looking to right the wrong pretty swiftly and Chris Hughton will get a reaction.

Prutton predicts: 1-2 with Sam Baldock first goalscorer (22/1 with Sky Bet)

Reading v Wolves (Sat, 3pm)

Brighton were just too clinical for Reading last weekend, which may have been a bit of a wake-up call for Jaap Stam's side if they were still harbouring hopes of automatic promotion.

The Royals can also get frustrated by teams at home who can contain the way they want to play, and Wolves could frustrate Reading here. It could be a banana skin for them, but I'll go for a draw.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 with Lewis Grabban first goalscorer (33/1 with Sky Bet)

Rotherham v Aston Villa (Sat, 3pm)

It's a tough one for Rotherham. It's been an uphill battle for them since the start of the season, as they haven't been able to get into any sort of form.

Villa have finally started to improve, winning their last two after a nightmare run. They should go there and win, although it may not be comfortable.

Prutton predicts: 1-2 with Jonathan Kodjia first goalscorer (19/1 with Sky Bet)

Sheffield Wednesday v Norwich (Sat, 3pm)

Sheffield Wednesday looked pretty toothless and didn't create much against Leeds. It would have flattered them to get something, which Carlos Carvalhal admitted himself.

There's not much between these sides, and Norwich will need to win here to keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive. But I think it will be a draw.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 with Jordan Rhodes first goalscorer (25/1 with Sky Bet)

Scunthorpe v Fleetwood (Sat, 3pm)

These two are virtually level pegging in Sky Bet League One, but the way Fleetwood have been playing the last couple of months has been wonderful and Uwe Rosler has them flying up the league.

Scunthorpe have been struggling lately and I reckon Fleetwood could edge it.

Prutton predicts: 0-1 with Bobby Grant first goalscorer (45/1 with Sky Bet)

Plymouth v Carlisle (Sat, 3pm)

Another very close game from a league position point of view, although Plymouth do have a game in hand. But what an absolutely journey it is for these fans! This must be the longest in the Sky Bet EFL.

And because of how far they'll be travelling I fancy Carlisle to get at least a draw and it will be a goal fest, to give them something to enjoy.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 with Graham Carey first goalscorer (55/1 with Sky Bet)
