League One round-up

Blackpool moved out of the relegation zone with a 5-2 win over Scunthorpe United.

Blackpool moved out of the relegation zone with a 5-2 victory over ten-man Scunthorpe United.

Sunday's Bloomfield Road contest proved a positive debut for Blackpool's caretaker manager Simon Grayson, who took charge of first team affairs on Thursday.

The Iron were keen to move into the play-off places with a win and Billy Sharp got the visitors off to a great start with an early strike.

John Murphy brought The Seasiders level on 18 minutes after latching on to a neat through-ball.

The match then turned two minutes later when Scunthorpe's Andy Crosby was sent off for a professional foul on Blackpool striker Tommy Wright.

Despite being a man short, Scunthorpe restored their lead from the penalty spot after Seasiders goalkeeper Leslie Pogliacomi was adjudged to have pushed Sharp in the box.

Sharp stepped up to convert his spot kick on 35 minutes for 2-1, but that lead only lasted seven minutes.

On-loan Ian Morris made it 2-2 with a fine header from a cross from the right before Wright (pictured) scored Blackpool's eventual winner in first half injury time with a sharp-angled strike.

Both sides had chances to score after the break before Blackpool added a fourth when substitute Rory Prendergast's short cross was knocked home by Murphy on 84 minutes.

The home side sealed a morale-boosting win when Morris curled home a left-footed finish for a 5-2 result.

Blackpool's Matthew Kay then created club history by becoming the youngest player to make a first team appearance for The Seasiders.

The 16-year-old came off the substitutes' bench just before the final whistle.

A late Michael McIndoe penalty gave Doncaster Rovers a 1-0 win at Oldham Athletic.

Both sides have been struggling near the wrong end of the table and a win for either side would have come as a timely boost.

It would be Dave Penney's side that claimed success at Boundary Park, with winger McIndoe scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot.

The result sees Donny leapfrog The Latics in the table.
