Targets keeping Curle busy

Chester City boss Keith Curle is hoping to resurrect a deal for Sagi Burton.

Chester City boss Keith Curle is hoping to resurrect a deal for Sagi Burton.

The Peterborough defender had been set for a move to The Saunders Honda Stadium earlier in January, but a proposed swap deal involving Phil Bolland fell through.

Now Burton has been told that he can leave on a free transfer, prompting Curle to move back in.

"I spoke to him yesterday after Barry Fry gave me permission," he told skysports.com.

"I've got a dialogue going with his agent and yes, I am still interested in him. Other clubs are after him but we'll make him an offer that will match anyone else in this division."

Burton has been linked with Shrewsbury and Falkirk, but Curle is armed with a plan to see off the Scots.

"I've told him it's a bit cold up there," he joked.

The former Mansfield boss is keen to provide defensive cover during the transfer window and he also revealed that he has been talking to Yeovil about the possibility of signing former Blue Michael Rose.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan with Scunthorpe United, although Curle is hoping that he can attract him back to the North West with the offer of a permanent switch.

"I'm still looking to strengthen," he added, "and I've spoken about signing Michael Rose permanently."

He then explained that he had tried to sign Doncaster defender Steve Foster in time for Saturday's match with Boston but was told that the 26-year-old is currently keeping his options open.
