MacKenzie out for the season

An ankle injury has put Scunthorpe's Neil MacKenzie out for the rest of the season.

Scunthorpe midfielder Neil MacKenzie has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

MacKenzie (pictured) went over on his ankle 20 minutes into the Iron's 2-1 reserve victory at Grimsby and it appears he has suffered ligament damage as a result.

A preliminary investigation has suggested that he has picked up the same injury as team-mate Billy Sharp.

Iron manager Brian Laws has expressed his sympathy for the player.

He told the club's official website: "It's a blow for Neil. It has come at a time when he was getting himself back in the frame."

The injury comes as a blow to both player and club, United having only completed the permanent signing of MacKenzie from Macclesfield in January.

His first goal for the Iron came while on loan in the defeat at Barnsley in December 2005.

Before that he had spells at Stoke, Cambridge, Kidderminster, Blackpool and Mansfield and has made over 200 league appearances in total.
