Neil MacKenzie aims to break back into the Scunthorpe United side after being recalled from a loan spell at Hereford United.
The midfielder joined the League Two club in October and was due to spend the rest of the month at Hereford.
But an injury to Matt Sparrow has prompted Iron boss Nigel Adkins to summon MacKenzie back to Glanford Park in time for the Christmas period.
MacKenzie was happy to answer his manager's call and feels his loan stint at Hereford was just what he needed.
"I'm pleased to be back," MacKenzie told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. "When Nigel rang I was more than willing to come back to Scunthorpe.
"Nigel is a fair bloke and has said that he has not brought me back to sit in the stand, there would have been no point in doing that.
"He has kept me in touch with everything that has been going on and I've had a few conversations with him since he took over.
"I've got exactly what I wanted to get out of the loan spell. I've played some games and got my confidence up."
