"I can only say to them that I would like to stay, of course I would but, without a contract offer on the table, if someone else comes in between now and the start of the season and offers a contract then for the security of me and my girlfriend I would have to take that," said the 23-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday striker.
Notts County's Australian international defender Andy McDermott is set to return to his native country after having his contract with the club cancelled by mutual agreement.
The 24-year-old has failed to make any impression at Meadow Lane after suffering from a niggling thigh injury, and he is now set to sign for Aussie outfit Northern Spirit on a free transfer.
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips has signed a new three-year contract with Bristol City, describing the deal as "brilliant".
"I never wanted to go anywhere else and now my aim is to play at the highest possible level with City."
Bournemouth boss Sean O'Driscoll has dismissed reports suggesting that Gareth O'Connor will start the new season on-loan with Irish side Bohemians, saying: "We have had no approach from Bohemians for Gareth and it is highly unlikely that he would be available for loan as he is an important member of the squad."
Huddersfield manager Lou Macari says that Chris Beech is on the comeback trail after undergoing surgery on a troublesome Achilles tendon injury last October.
"He has been doing some toning and strengthening work," said the former Swindon boss, "but he has now been for a 20-minute run at a decent pace, not a severe one, and he has come through fine."
