The 22-year-old sustained the injury last Wednesday in The Robins' 2-1 extra-time victory over Division Three side Boston United in the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy.
Hulbert is likely to be out of action for three to four weeks for Danny Wilson's side.
Meanwhile, striker Lee Matthews is set for more time on the sidelines as the back injury he sustained in the 3-1 home defeat against QPR in September has not improved as well as first thought.
Matthews suffered a slipped disc in his back and was originally thought to be out until the middle of this month.
However, his slow recovery means he will need more time with his recovery before he can return to the West Country club's line-up.
On Matthews' back injury, boss Danny Wilson told the club's official website: "Lee is still a long way off a return to fitness.
"Sadly, he's still getting a lot of spasms in his back.
"He has seen a number of people to try and ease the pain, but it seems like the injury just needs more time.
"It looks like it just needs rest than anything else to be honest."
