Gould lands Ashton Gate youngster

CHELTENHAM TOWN manager Bobby Gould has signed right back Kevin Amankwaah on a month's loan from Division Two side Bristol City.

The 21-year-old has joined the Whaddon Road club as Gould looks to boost his injury-ravaged squad for the early stages of the Division Three season, with defenders Shane Duff and Richard Walker currently on the sidelines.

Amankwaah, who spent a brief loan spell at Torquay United last season, was sidelined from playing for a prolonged period following a serious car accident in March 2002.

The youngster returned to The Robins last May to make a substitute appearance in the Division Two play-off semi-final against Cardiff City at Ashton Gate and will look to get more first-team experience with the Gloucestershire club.

"The board of directors have been tremendous in their support and allowing this to happen," Gould told the club's official website.

"Kevin had a major setback just as his career seemed to be taking off but hopefully we can help him back on the road to better things."
