Notts County goalkeeper Saul Deeney has rejected Bristol City's loan offer.Notts County boss Gudjon Thordarson says goalkeeper Saul Deeney rejected Bristol City's offer to sign him on loan.
The 22-year-old is keen to leave Meadow Lane after turning down a contract extension with the League Two club.
Deeney is currently on a week-to-week deal with The Magpies, as he seeks pastures new before the end of the summer transfer window next week.
The custodian had a trial with Championship club Crewe Alexandra and was linked with a move to Sheffield United before taking the opportunity to train with The Robins.
Despite the West Country club's interest in the Irishman, Deeney has rejected the chance of a loan switch to Ashton Gate in order to clinch a permanent move away from County.
"Saul turned Bristol City's first move to sign him down because they wanted to take him on loan or something like that," Thordarson told the club's official website.
"That option was there, but he wants a permanent move.
"I don't know if it rules him out of a permanent move down there though, we will have to see."
Despite Thordarson's admission, Robins boss Brian Tinnion says 'the door is still open' for Deeney to join them on loan.
"We've only seen him in training for two days before he returned to Notts County," Tinnion told City's official website.
"Although we've been impressed, we can't commit to a permanent deal at this stage.
"As it stands, he has until next Wednesday to accept our loan offer, find himself another club or stay at Notts County until January."
