Trialist catches Johnson's eye

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has been impressed by trialist Faysal El Idrissi.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson admits he has been impressed by trialist Faysal El Idrissi after the Moroccan scored in a reserve game against Plymouth.

The 28-year-old, who was released by Coventry City in August, scored in a 1-1 draw against The Pilgrims and has been given an extended trial after initially struggling with injury.

El Idrissi, who can play out wide or as a target man, seems to have caught Johnson's eye after the City boss admitted he had taken a shine to the player who turned out twice for Coventry before the arrival of Kevin Kyle rendered him expendable at The Ricoh Arena.

"We believe Faysal has some ability," Johnson told the club's official website.

"We have given him an extended trial period because he was unfortunately injured in a practice game and we haven't been able to take a close look at him until now."

The reserve tie was also notable for the return of Bradley Orr following his release from prison after serving 14 days of a 28-day sentence for a brawl also involving two of his team-mates.
