Bristol City and Carlisle won, while Nottingham Forest and Tranmere both drew.
Bristol City and Carlisle United closed the gap on the League One summit with victories on Tuesday, as Nottingham Forest and Tranmere Rovers both drew.
Leaders Nottingham Forest had to come from goal down to draw 1-1 at ten-man Port Vale.
Michael Husbands gave The Valiants the lead a minute in before Ian Breckin (33) made sure there was a share of the spoils at Vale Park.
Husbands's evening ended with a quarter of a hour remaining when he was sent off for a rash challenge on Forest's James Perch.
Tranmere Rovers squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Huddersfield Town at Prenton Park.
Calvin Zola (11) and Chris Greenacre (37) gave Ronnie Moore's side a 2-0 half-time lead, but strikes from the veteran Andy Booth (55) and Gary Taylor-Fletcher (78) gave The Terriers a much-needed point in The Wirral.
A second-half strike from Phil Jevons (pictured) gave Bristol City 1-0 at Bournemouth, as The Robins closed the gap on Forest to just a single point.
Carlisle United are two points off the top after a 2-0 home success over struggling Blackpool.
Chris Lumsdon (18) broke the deadlock for The Cumbrians before Karl Hawley (88) sealed all three points at Brunton Park.
Yeovil Town are three points adrift after a 2-0 victory over managerless Brighton & Hove Albion at Huish Park.
On-loan Bristol City striker Marcus Stewart (6) gave Russell Slade's side the lead before Wayne Gray (82) doubled their advantage late on in Somerset.
A pulsating Yorkshire derby at Belle Vue saw Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City draw 3-3.
The Bantams ran out to a two-goal lead after a first-half brace from Dean Windass (1, 23) before Paul Green struck twice (43, 51) for Sean O'Driscoll's side.
James Coppinger (53) then gave Donny a 3-2 lead before the home side lost Graeme Lee for a second bookable offence on 82 minutes.
A minute later, Bradford claimed a point when Marc Bridge-Wilkinson claimed a third goal for Colin Todd's side.
Oldham Athletic defeated bottom club Rotherham United 2-1 at Boundary Park, with Stefan Stam (51) giving The Latics the lead before Will Hoskins (68) levelled for The Millers.
Oldham claimed the points when Paul Warne (76) struck the winner for John Sheridan's side.
Swansea City beat Dario Gradi's Crewe Alexandra 2-1 at The Liberty Stadium, with Rory Fallon (24) and Leon Knight (53) finding the scoresheet for The Swans.
A Gary Roberts penalty (32) proved to be a consolation for The Railwaymen.
Millwall started the post-Nigel Spackman era with a 1-1 home draw against London rivals Brentford.
Calum Willock (13) gave The Bees the lead, but Alan Dunne (26) earned a point for The Lions.
A strike from Andy Kirk (67) and a penalty from Scott McGleish (83) gave Northampton Town a 2-0 win at Cheltenham Town.
Finally, a late Matthew Lockwood hat-trick gave Leyton Orient a 3-3 draw with Gillingham at Brisbane Road.
The Gills looked to be cruising to victory in East London, as Mark Bentley (43), Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu (45) and Matthew Jarvis (57) gave Ronnie Jepson's side a three-goal lead.
However, Lockwood salvaged a point for The O's with the goals in 11 second-half minutes, with the first coming from the penalty spot on 77 minutes.
Lockwood struck again on 85 minutes before claiming his third three minutes later for Martin Ling's struggling side.
