City boss hoping to bring in new signings

Skysports.com understands Ipswich Town striker Jon Stead is back in talks with Bristol City regarding a move to Ashton Gate. Stead turned down a deal with the Robins last month and has subsequently seen a switch to Premier League new boys Blackpool fall through. However, the 27-year-old has revived the prospect of a switch to the Robins after being told he can leave Ipswich by manager Roy Keane. The Robins, who also hold an interest in Hull City target Jay Simpson, are in the market for new signings as Keith Millen looks to improve his squad.

Hopeful

"I was hopeful of signing two or three players this week, but the situation seems to change with every phone call," Millen told the Bristol Evening Post. "We're working hard behind the scenes to bring about a couple of deals that have been ongoing for a while, but it is difficult. "I'm still hopeful of bringing in one new face before the weekend, but not the two or three I wanted." Meanwhile, new Robins manager Millen has appointed Steve Wigley as his assistant at the Championship club. Wigley has agreed a one-year rolling contract and will combine the position with his duties with the England Under 21 side.
