The Forest boss is concerned that, should his side fail to make the play-offs, he will be forced to balance the books by off-loading the likes of skipper Chris Bart-Williams, David Prutton, Andy Johnson, Alan Rogers and Riccardo Scimeca.
Prutton could be the first to leave the City Ground after it emerged that he is currently being tracked by Premiership outfit Newcastle United.
"If an offer comes in that could be acceptable we will take it," he revealed.
"I expect my phone to be ringing in the summer. We're no different from a lot of other clubs. It just takes some careful business management.
"The easiest way to clear the debt is to get into the Premiership. We therefore have to look at other ways because we're a Division One club and if we remain a Division One club, we will have to listen to offers for our players - we will have to trim the wage bill."
Forest currently lie in tenth place in the league with little more than an outside chance of securing an end-of-season play-off berth.
