The 27-year-old's current contract expires in the summer and as yet no deal has been offered.
Coventry and Grimbsly have been linked with the out-of-favour striker, but Lester is hopeful of staying at the City Ground.
"My contract expires this summer but I've never made any secret of the fact that I would love to stay with Forest," said Lester.
"I have got a lot of good friends at the club and feel really settled in Nottingham but we will just have to wait and see what happens.
"The most important thing at the moment is to help Forest secure a play-off spot and then set our sights on going all the way to the Premiership."
