Gary Megson's debut as Forest boss ended in a 2-1 defeat to Millwall.Gary Megson's debut as Nottingham Forest boss ended in defeat, with the former West Brom manager looking on as Millwall picked up a 2-1 victory at the City Ground.
Despite dominating possession, Forest were frustrated by their opponents who went 2-0 up through Barry Hayles and Alan Dunne before Kris Commons gave them a late consolation.
Forest had started brightly but could not convert early chances, and it was The Lions that took the lead through Hayles.
The former Fulham man was played in by Jody Morris, span past his marker and slotted home with aplomb to leave the City Ground crowd stunned.
Morris then showed defensive qualities to clear Gareth Taylor's header off the line, before David Johnson missed a great chance when Graham Stack fumbled Commons' shot, missing the target with the goal at his mercy.
Forest then found themselves two behind when Dunne curled a wonderful shot past Paul Gerrard into the top corner.
Marlon King and Johnson missed more good chances for the increasingly frustrated hosts - and Stack made up for earlier errors when he saved superbly to deny Commons.
Forest finally got a goal when Commons rose to head home King's fine cross, but it was too little, too late for Megson and his new side.
