Spireites sign pair

Chesterfield have signed Barry Roche and Reuben Hazell for the coming season.

Chesterfield have signed goalkeeper Barry Roche and defender Reuben Hazell for the coming season.

The pair have been on trial with the North Derbyshire outfit this pre-season and both have impressed Spireites boss Roy McFarland enough to earn contracts for the new League One season.

Roche has signed a two-year deal with the Saltergate club following his release from League One rivals Nottingham Forest.

Former Tranmere Rovers and Torquay United man Hazell (pictured), meanwhile, has penned a short-term contract until the end of the year after finishing last season with Kidderminster Harriers.

"The two players have both showed they have something to offer during pre-season and we are delighted they have accepted the contracts we have been able to offer them," McFarland told the club's official website.

McFarland's search for a new centre back and midfielder has seen him take two unnamed French trialists on trial - with one of the French duo currently plying their trade in the German Bundesliga.

McFarland may also pursue his interest in central defender Jonas Kovacs.

The Hungarian impressed The Spireites with his displays on trial and it remains to seen if the club will try and bring him back to Saltergate.
