Two teams scrapping at the bottom of League One claimed vital points in the night's games, whilst Swansea City missed out on going second.
The Swans missed the chance to go second behind Southend United after losing at home to Gillingham 2-1.
Goals from Darren Byfield (18) and Neil Harris (71) put the visitors in command before Andy Robinson's penalty (84) gave the home side hope late-on.
The result means Gillingham climb into the top-half of the division, however they will lose the services of Michael Flynn after he was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Bottom side Milton Keynes Dons picked up a rare victory, defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at The National Hockey Stadium.
Izale McLeod (pictured) notched his 13th goal of the season after 22 minutes to aid The Dons' hopes of avoiding relegation.
Jamie Cureton bagged the only goal as Swindon Town defeated Walsall 1-0 to climb a place at the foot of the table.
