Reading's Michail Antonio is looking forward to testing himself in the Premier League next season.

Former non-league star ready to signal his arrival on big stage

Reading's young winger Michail Antonio is looking forward to testing himself in the Premier League after ending the season on a high with Sheffield Wednesday. The 22-year-old impressed during a four-month spell with the Owls, scoring five times in 14 appearances, including the crucial opening goal in their final day promotion-clinching win over Wycombe. The newly-promoted Championship outfit are keen to bring Antonio back to South Yorkshire on a permanent basis, but the tricky playmaker told SkySports.com that he is fully focused on breaking into the Reading first-team next season.

Opportunity

"I'm definitely keen to take the next step at Reading and I do feel that I've developed my game further whilst at Sheffield Wednesday," he said. "I feel that I have proven myself in League One now, but I also feel that I can play at a higher level and if someone takes a chance on me and gives me the opportunity I can show people that. "I've obviously got the stature of being a Premier League player now, which is great, but at the same time I don't feel that I've earned it. "I was in and out of the side before I went to Sheffield Wednesday, so although I have contributed to Reading's campaign I don't feel that I have done enough to call myself a Premier League player.
Test
"That will be my challenge next season I guess and the chance to test myself against the best is one I will relish." The former Tooting & Mitcham starlet managed six appearances for the Royals between successful loan periods at Colchester and Sheffield Wednesday. "It has definitely been a productive year for me because I've scored nine goals in 37 appearances, which is just over one goal in every four games. "I probably could have scored a few more here and there, but I can't really complain on that front to be honest."
