Blackpool condemned Brighton to a fifth loss in a row after a 3-0 win at The Withdean.
Blackpool condemned Brighton & Hove Albion to a fifth consecutive defeat after a convincing 3-0 win at The Withdean Stadium.
Keith Southern put the visitors ahead in the first half, and substitute Scott Vernon netted twice in the second period, while Brighton also had Alexandre Frutos sent off.
Brighton appealed for an early penalty after the ball appeared to brush Michael Jackson's arm before Blackpool forged ahead on 17 minutes.
Shaun Barker clipped in a delightful ball from the right and Southern darted into the box to steer the cross home via a combination of head and shoulder.
The second goal came on 61 minutes when a corner from the right was headed into the six-yard box and Vernon displayed his predatory instincts to poke home.
On 72 minutes, Seagulls substitute Frutos was shown a red card after catching Barker with his forearm as the two went up for a challenge.
The hosts' misery was compounded three minutes from time when Kerry Mayo's poor clearance was punished by Vernon, whose dummy bamboozled Brighton keeper Michel Kuipers.
Rotherham United continued to make headway in their quest to overcome the effects of a 10-point penalty by beating Port Vale 3-1 away from home.
Justin Cochrane put the visitors in front on 47 minutes and striker Dave Hibbert added a second goal six minutes later.
Leon Constantine's penalty on 74 minutes put Vale back in the match, but an 85th minute effort from Will Hoskins clinched the points for The Millers, who are now two points adrift of Leyton Orient at the foot of the table.
