Cardiff striker Michael Chopra has been told he needs to start producing the goods if he is to regain a place in the starting XI.
The £4million signing from Sunderland has seen his role for the Bluebirds come under threat due to the form of Jay Bothroyd and Craig Bellamy.
Chopra has bagged just four league goals for the Championship promotion hopefuls this term and missed almost two months with an ankle injury.
Title rivals Queens Park Rangers were reported to be interested in securing his services over the summer and further talk of a £3million switch to Loftus Road has emerged with the transfer window approaching.
But Jones has told Chopra to focus on his performances for the Welsh outfit and admitted that only consistent displays will see him return as a first-team regular.
Jones said: "Michael needs to get to the form he was showing. When you have competition for places you have to be at your best all the time.
"There may have been other reasons why he lost his place. But that goes for any player at the club."
