McAllister praise for Glovers

Yeovil captain Jamie McAllister has spoken of his pride at taking the Glovers into the Championship for the first time.

The former Bristol City left-back, who suffered play-off heartache at Wembley back in 2008, said walking up the steps to lift the trophy was literally a dream come true. The Scot also revealed that doing just that on Sunday afternoon fulfilled a career-long ambition. "It was an incredible feeling lifting the trophy up, I'd dreamed about it all week," he said. "All through your career you want to be the captain who lifts a trophy at Hampden or Wembley or wherever and to do it was just incredible. "Funnily enough when I came off my ankle was killing me but when the final whistle went it suddenly felt alright." The Glovers, who only ended their 103-year stay in the non-league game in 2003, can now start planning for a campaign brushing shoulders with former European Cup winning clubs and players with seasons of Premier League experience under their belts. And McAllister believes that the second-tier sides will not relish a trip to Somerset in the next 12 months. He said: "What an achievement for such a small club with a small budget, but we had the belief in the dressing room and the quality all season. "It is unbelievable when you think where we were in the league 10 years ago, to playing in the second tier against QPR and those clubs is an incredible achievement. "I'm sure a few of them won't look forward to coming to Huish Park, we will make the most of that."
