Yeovil are embarking on their first season at this level and, despite propping up the table, they have put in a string of spirited displays in recent weeks, including a shock win over Nottingham Forest and draws with Brighton and Bolton.
"The boys are gaining experience every game and many haven't played at this level," McAllister said.
"We are getting better and we are in most games for long spells. We've lost a lot of our games by the odd goal so we've got the quality in the dressing room if not the experience but that comes.
"We want to push on now. We know it'll be a tough test but one we are looking forward to."
McAllister is back at this level having been a Bristol City regular between 2007 and 2012 in the second tier. And, having taken on the FA Cup holders Wigan and the likes of Forest and Leeds in recent weeks, McAllister believes the standard of the division has improved dramatically.
"It's a great league and it is getting better every year," he said. "There are a lot of foreigners playing in the Premier League so a lot of Premier League players are now playing in the Championship.
"Week in week out you are playing against quality players and internationals who have played regularly for their countries.
"It is a great standard and we are relishing playing in it."
