Sheffield United needed a second-half goal from Jay O'Shea to draw 1-1 at Oldham as they saw their lead at the top of League One cut to four points.

On a poor pitch at SportsDirect.com Park, the hosts went ahead shortly before half-time when Josh Law set up Tope Obadeyi.

But O'Shea levelled five minutes after the restart to extend United's unbeaten run to 10 matches, their best run of the season in the league.

They missed late chances to win, with Billy Sharp particularly culpable, and that means Bolton have now closed in on the Bramall Lane side thanks to their 2-0 win at Shrewsbury.

It took until after half-time for them to make a breakthrough at Greenhaus Meadow, but efforts from Mark Beevers and Adam Le Fondre gave them a comfortable afternoon.

Le Fondre's goal was his fifth in as many games but more notable was the fact both men were assisted by Filipe Morais.

He has now set up 11 goals in League One since February 28, more than any other player in the top four tiers.

After a goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time from Conor Thomas gave Swindon a 1-0 win over Millwall, Southend gave themselves breathing space over the London side in the final play-off place.

They were 2-0 victors at AFC Wimbledon courtesy of goals from Nile Ranger and Simon Cox, which means they are now three points clear of the Lions in sixth place.

In Ranger's case, his strike gave him goals in three consecutive league matches for the first time in his career.

Rochdale did their challenge for a play-off spot no harm with a 3-1 win at Chesterfield. Ian Henderson, Callum Camps and Jamie Allen all scored before Kristian Dennis pulled one back.

Bristol Rovers' hopes, on the other hand, were dented as they were beaten 1-0 by bottom side Coventry.

George Thomas struck 10 minutes from the end to give them back-to-back wins for the first time since October.

That will boost them ahead of next weekend's Checkatrade Trophy final meeting with Oxford at Wembley, although Coventry do still remain 11 points from safety.
