Murray recently capped an excellent season by scooping six Player of the Season awards and despite having been made a lucrative offer to stay at Oldham, the midfielder has decided his future lies elsewhere.
It now seems almost certain that the former QPR favourite will once again be reunited with Mick Wadsworth at Portuguese club Beira Mar.
''We made Paul the best possible offer we could to keep him here at Boundary Park but he felt that the move to Portugal was an opportunity he couldn't turn down,'' managing director Simon Corney told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, Oldham's veteran midfielder Darren Sheridan has been told he will not be having his contract renewed at Boundary Park.
The combative anchorman has proved a popular figure at Oldham since signing from Wigan in 1999 and has previously been an integral member of the first-team set-up.
However, new Latics boss Brian Talbot has decided that resources would be better spent improving other areas of the pitch.
Another veteran, David Eyres, has been offered a one-year deal - which is likely to be the final season of his career.
The club have also confirmed that exciting Jamaican international Jermaine Johnson has been offered a one-year contract.
The pacey forward enjoyed a productive short spell with Oldham last season, having been released by Premiership outfit Bolton.
Mark Bonnor, signed on a similar deal from Cardiff last season, has been offered a two-year contract.
Young Scottish defender Will Haining has been rewarded for a series of dominating defensive displays with a three-year offer.
