Oldham are looking to cull their squad by paying-off David Beharall and Jermaine Johnson.Oldham Athletic boss Brian Talbot is looking to further cull his squad by paying-off David Beharall and Jermaine Johnson.
The Latics are hopeful that both players will agree settlements with regards to their contracts and leave the club with immediate effect.
Both players are currently in discussion with their agents and the club, as they look to sort out their respective futures in the next few weeks.
Beharall has struggled with injuries in the past few seasons and has been unable to recapture the type of form that made him regular when he first moved to Boundary Park from Newcastle.
The central defender has been available for transfer for much of the present campaign and could now look to rejuvenate his stalled career elsewhere.
News of Johnson's possible departure will come as more of a surprise to the Oldham faithful, despite the fact he has struggled with injury this term.
The talented Jamaican is a player of considerable promise but Talbot has clearly decided resources would be put to better use in other areas.
It is likely that Johnson will not be short of suitors, although he will have to overcome his current injury problems before he is picked up by another club.
Talbot could use an increase in the club's wage budget to up his contract offer to Mark Hughes, who is currently stalling on the deal offered.
Alternatively, a move for Blackpool's Richard Wellens has been mooted in recent weeks and Talbot would potentially have the resources to mount a firm offer.
