Oldham's Dutch defender Stefan Stam is out for the rest of the season.
Oldham's bid for a League One play-off spot has been dealt a blow with news that Stefan Stam is out for the season.
The accomplished Dutch stopper needs surgery to rectify a groin problem that has plagued his season.
Oldham are currently in a fine run of form defensively, having kept five successive clean sheets, but are short on cover if any of their recognised first choice back three of Guy Branston, Will Haining and Chris Swailes were to pick up a knock.
Brighter news comes in the guise of Mark Hughes (pictured), with the Northern Irish midfielder expected to be fit to play Rotherham in another important game on Tuesday.
Hughes hobbled off towards the end of Oldham's 1-0 win over Colchester at the weekend courtesy of a back injury but is expected to be passed fit to play.
Striker Luke Beckett, an absentee at the weekend, is also hopeful of making a return at Millmoor.
